Attachments
Why some synced conversation attachments cannot be previewed in Symbiosis.
Why an attachment may not preview
Symbiosis can show an attachment inside a conversation when it has a safe remote URL or a same-device local file that the app is allowed to read. When neither is available, the app shows a compact attachment pill instead of trying to open a missing or untrusted file.
This usually means one of these is true:
- the source app has not uploaded a remote copy yet;
- the attachment only exists on another device;
- the local file path is outside the folders Symbiosis is allowed to read;
- the source app reported attachment metadata, but not a usable file URL.
What to try
Open the source app on the device that originally received the attachment and confirm the file is available there. If the integration supports same-device attachment loading, keep that device awake and connected while Symbiosis syncs.
If the attachment still does not preview, the message text and attachment metadata may still be available in Symbiosis, but the file itself needs to be opened from the original conversation.
Privacy and safety
Symbiosis does not follow arbitrary local file paths from synced messages. Local attachments are only opened when the app can verify that the file belongs to a trusted same-device integration and lives under an approved attachment folder.
